How to Cure Panic Attacks
Many who suffer from panic attacks would be glad to know that there is a way to cure panic attacks. For those who do not know what a Panic Attack is, it is a condition wherein people afflicted feel a sudden and intense fear or apprehension that can last anywhere from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. While there is no real danger of death, people who suffer from panic attack feel as if they are dying. Many have described the sensation as being so terrifying death sometimes seems a relief.
So how does one cure panic attacks?
Learn Relaxation Techniques
Simple exercises like deep breathing and meditation help control or keep the panic at bay. Most of the time, the panic is just a product of the sufferer’s imagination. An overactive fear contributes to exacerbating the panic so it is of utmost important to control one’s fear. Meditative techniques like going in a trance or forcing one’s self to dissociate from the body helps in disconnecting the mind from the body, stopping the symptoms from continuing. The mind controls the body; therefore, if one controls the mind, the symptoms would stop.
Think positively
As corny as it may sound, thinking positively does work. Studies have shown that negative and passive people are more prone to panic attacks than assertive and positive individuals. The difference it seems is in the way those with panic attacks think. Negative thoughts poison the mind, making it fearful and counterproductive. As a result, the mind turns against the body, and people suffer from panic attacks. To cure panic attacks, one must always think positively. Strengthen the mind against fear and negativity and you’ll see panic attacks will be a thing of the past.
Avoid unhealthy food and unhealthy habits
It may have already been said to you, but it bears repeating. Unhealthy food and unhealthy habits contribute to panic attacks. Avoid food with caffeine, stop smoking and binge drinking, keep your sugar levels stable, and exercise regularly. As soon as you start living healthily, your body will start responding positively. Caffeine, alcohol, excess sugar levels – all these are chemicals which triggers the Symptoms Of Panic Attacks. Stop taking in bad things, and start taking in good things. Eat right, feel right.
Consult the doctor
While it is possible to stop yourself from having panic attacks completely without professional help, consulting a doctor will hasten that process and will allow you to be guided accordingly.
A doctor will often recommend a number of Cognitive Behavior Therapy techniques as treatment. Desensitization and in vivo exposure are two of these techniques. In desensitization, a patient is trained to get used to the symptoms of panic attack. Symptom induction techniques like spinning in a chair or holding one’s breath stimulates dizziness, disorientation, and dyspnea. While a little terrifying at first glance, patients who undergo this kind of treatment are actually training their brain to unlearn the conditioned response to these stimuli. Over time, the person discovers there is nothing to fear from these symptoms and the brain stops activating the condition response. Another way to cure panic attacks, in vivo exposure, treats the patients by gradually exposing them to the source if their fear until such time that the person no longer fears it.
