First found: people with blood type A are more susceptible to new coronary pneumonia

On March 16, researchers including Southern University of Science and Technology, Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University and other research institutions collaborated on the preprint platform medRxiv to publish the title "Relationship between ABO Blood Type and COVID-19 Susceptibility" Latest research. It was found for the first time that people with blood type A were more susceptible to neo-coronary pneumonia, and people with blood type O were less susceptible to infection.

It is reported that researchers recruited 1,775 patients with new coronary pneumonia from Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, including 206 deaths, and 113 and 285 patients from Wuhan University People's Hospital and Shenzhen Third People's Hospital, respectively.

The relationship between ABO blood type and susceptibility to COVID-19 was analyzed by comparing the blood group distribution of 2173 patients with new coronary pneumonia in three hospitals in Wuhan and Shenzhen with the susceptibility of COVID-19 in the corresponding regions. Type A accounted for 32.16%, type B accounted for 24.90%, type AB accounted for 9.10%, and type O accounted for 33.84%.

The proportion of type A blood and type O blood of 1,775 patients with new coronary pneumonia from Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital was higher and lower than normal distribution respectively; while 398 patients from Wuhan University People's Hospital and Shenzhen Third People's Hospital also showed similar ABO Distribution pattern.

The researchers also considered the patient's gender and age factors, and found that this did not significantly affect the distribution of blood group susceptibility.

A meta-analysis found that compared with non-A blood, people with blood type A had a significantly higher risk of new coronary pneumonia; compared with non-O blood, the risk was significantly lower in people with blood type O.
